New vintage shop opens in Eau Claire

Seven Suns Vintage Clothing has opened its doors in Eau Claire, with the store hoping to create the atmosphere of a “vintage wonderland.”

The store is the brainchild of couple Savannah Smith and Jonah Lemke, a singer-songwriter and tattoo artist respectively. Smith wanted to turn her large collection of clothes from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s into a business, first through online sales and now through an in-person storefront. The store itself was conceived as a piece of art, with a symmetrical design and décor choices such as dark wood and warm tones that evoke the graphic design style of the ‘70s. As for the clothes, according to Lemke, the selection process is simple:

“We basically go for things that we’re drawn to. Things that are fun to look at.”

Seven Sun’s wares range from flower-power dresses to motorcycle jackets, as well as a large selection of leather boots in classic styles. The items have been compiled from years of scouring garage sales, thrift stores, and online auctions. Events like these, advertised through methods like brochure printing, bring together enthusiasts for period Apparel and styles.

Seven Suns hopes to become a one-stop shop for these treasure-hunters in Wisconsin. The store plans to use social media platforms like Instagram, popular among fashion fans, to publicize its stocks and upcoming sales and events.

The “soft opening” of Seven Suns took place last Saturday, June 6, with the South Barstow Street location now open regularly.
