Mayo Clinic to launch at-home program in Eau Claire

The Mayo Clinic has announced that it will be trialing a new “hospital at home” program, with Eau Claire being one of the test cities beginning in August.

The new initiative is a partnership between the well-known hospital and technology services company Medically Home. The goal is to allow patients to experience the same level of care they would at the clinic in their homes. The program targets people in need who do not require intensive care or surgery, using visits from nurses and other home treatment options. The goal is to provide a personalized experience for patients while retaining a rapid response through a medical command center equipped with physicians and nurses.

The project will first launch in Jacksonville, Florida, and be equipped to go beyond typical house calls and include treatments like infusions, imaging services, rehabilitation and more. Patients will be allowed to go home sooner and receive treatment at home as part of a “virtual floor.” Pilot programs like these typically use tools like poster printing and flyer printing, along with face-to-face conversation, to inform patients about the new opportunities and allay potential fears. The target is for each center to be handling 20 patients a day by the fall.

The Eau Claire branch of the pilot program will begin in August, using the Jacksonville “command center” as well as resources and personnel from the Eau Claire branch of the Mayo Clinic. If successful, the at-home program will be expanded throughout the Clinic’s various locations in 2021 and beyond.
