Foraging class set for Eau Claire

Foraging season is fast approaching, and Eau Claire residents who enjoy making the most of this will soon be able to brush up on their ID skills.

Beaver Creek Naturalist Jim Schwiebert will be sharing his expertise when it comes to food sourced from the wild during the Foraging for Wild Edibles. It will include both indoor and outdoor learning, and is best suited to an adult audience.

The workshop will open with a presentation introducing the edible wild plants found in the area at different times of the year. It will be focused on those that are easy to identify, and once this portion of the activity is over, everyone will head outdoors to the venue’s trails and woods. They will be invited to sample a few bites as they go, and the event will wrap up with a beverage and greens tasting. Mushrooms will be on the agenda for discussion as well.

Those who take part in a learning session can find out how to do so sustainably and successfully with basic ID guides and tips sheets. These can be crafted for an activity by area Stationery printers.

This introduction to the art and science of foraging will be on offer on Saturday, April 29, starting at 9:30 am. The final date to register is April 20, and the location of the activity will be S1 County Road K in Fall Creek.
