Eau Claire will host the “2021 U.S. National Kubb Championship” next month. Kubb is a sport that was played by Vikings, and it resembles a mix between horseshoes and bowling.
The event will happen over a weekend as a tournament-style competition where teams will compete until a champion is crowned. The tournament will start with a round-robin that determines placings. All teams will then move towards a double-elimination playoff format.
Teams that make it out of the playoffs will compete in the Championship Bracket for a chance to win the whole thing. Teams that are double-eliminated can still compete in the Silver and Bronze brackets.
Non-competitors can also join as spectators or sponsors. Merchandise made with the help of printing services will be available for purchase. Some items that can be bought include T-Shirts and hats. Proceeds from the event will go towards fundraisers like “We Help War Victims” and Girls On The Run Chippewa Valley.”
The tournament will start on July 9. The round-robin play and playoffs will begin the following day. The tournament will then wrap up by July 11. Teams looking to join can register online by June 19. Registration is $70 for each team, and there will be a limit of 128 teams participating. The venue for the event is the Eau Claire Soccer Park on Hamilton Avenue and Craig Road.
