Eau Claire area competition seeks large pumpkins

Pumpkins are a colorful member of the squash family, and these gourds will be put to the test during an upcoming Eau Claire event that will seek to find the area's largest pumpkin.

Eau Claire growers and home gardeners will be bringing in their biggest and best gourds for the River Prairie Ginormous Pumpkin Festival Weigh Off. Anyone who enters and wins the competition with a pumpkin that beats the current record will receive a premium, and other veggies will be judged as well.

The judges will also weigh in on choosing the top long gourd, watermelon, tomato, marrow, and squash. The Howard Dill prize, named in honor of Howard Dill, who is at the forefront when it comes to breeding giant pumpkins, will also be presented. There will also be a contest featuring pumpkin-based desserts.

The current pumpkin record to beat is held by Jim Ford, and his entry came in at 2,015 pounds. Award ribbons, prize certificates and Corporate Gifts to present to the winner of a competition such as this one will all be available at an area printing services company.

The River Prairie Ginormous Pumpkin Festival Weigh Off will be tipping the scales on Saturday, September 24th. It will be taking place in River Prairie Park, and everyone is welcome to stop by.
