Flowers, herbs, and vegetables can all be started by seed, and the NE Seattle Tool Library will be the venue for an activity that may help point the way to success.
The workshop will provide a chance for those who register to work together planting seeds. As the event means that attendees may not have to purchase their seeds from a nursery or garden center, the savings may well surpass the registration fee.
Everyone is asked to bring small containers for starting their plants as well as any seeds they would like to grow, and plant trays are optional but appreciated.
The facilitator, Susan Gregory, will share her knowledge with the group, and since everyone will be pooling their effort and resources, it can be a fun and thrifty experience. It will also offer an opportunity to utilize heritage varieties and cultivars that are not typically available in the trade, which helps to preserve genetic diversity. Tickets will be priced based on the attendee’s income.
Seed starting is a sustainable gardening practice that many home horticulturalists find to be both fun and challenging. Printed paper storage Envelopes, tip sheets, and other materials for a workshop will be available at area printing services companies.
