What's Happening in Seattle, WA…

Seattle class to cover pruning basics

Pruning techniques can be used by the home horticulturalist to keep their shrubs, trees and other plants looking tidy, and a Seattle session will share some tips doing so.

A workshop that introduces the basics of pruning will be held at the NE Seattle Tool Library, and it is intended for the homeowner. It will combine a lecture with a demonstration, and tickets, which are being offered on a sliding scale, start at $25.00.

The instructors for the activity will have a lot of experience in hands-on horticulture, and they will be teaching how to determine how much to remove, where to make the cuts to keep a shrub or tree in its desired shape and size and also how to prune to keep them healthy and strong. The attendees will be encouraged to ask questions, and they are welcome to make notes. If they wish, they may also bring a picture of a specific pruning problem so they can get targeted advice.

Those planning a workshop or other educational activity will be able to order an assortment of learning materials from local print shops. They can also supply products like promotional pens to distribute.

This chance for home gardeners to learn how, when and why to prune will be running from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on February 8th. The venue can be found at 10228 Fischer Place in Northeast Seattle.
