Seattle celebrates in Mexican style

The 11th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration is taking place next month in Seattle. It is hosted by El Centro de la Raza.

Cinco de Mayo is the observance of a battle between Mexican and French troops in 1862 that was won by Mexico. It is celebrated both in the U.S. and Mexico, and increasingly in other countries such as Canada.

The celebration is set to feature plenty of traditional Mexican food and beverages for purchase, along with raffles and children's activities. Musical entertainment will be provided during the afternoon by artists such as DJ Sonido Impacto, the Seattle Fandango Project, and Folklore Mexicano Tonantzin. Vendors will also be on hand to sell arts and crafts, many of which will no doubt be Mexican-inspired. In addition, several community organizations will be providing information about their programs and services.

Booths are still available to be purchased. Fees for a 6’ x 6’ booth are $100 for artisans and $90 for nonprofits and community groups.

Seattle flyer printing companies will likely be helping to advertise this event by providing inexpensive Flyers for distribution.

The Cinco de Mayo celebration will be held at the Jefferson Community Center on May 7 from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm. Admission is free of charge. Contact El Centro de la Raza at 206-957-4649 to find out more about this upcoming event.
