Seattle area session to introduce kids to fungi

Participants in a family-friendly walking workshop will learn how to identify some common species in the field of fungi.

Families from Seattle and the surrounding area are welcome to take part in Mushroom Mania, which will be an activity planned with all ages in mind. It will be taking place in Bainbridge Island’s IslandWood, which is a large forested area, and both adults’ and children's tickets have been made available.

The group will be led on a walk along wooded trails at the venue, with the facilitator pointing out the various species they encounter along the way. These may include edible species such as turkey tails and some types of puffballs, and others that are not edible but are interesting will also be explored. It will be geared towards kids, and it may help them to develop an interest in mycology.

An in-person fungi foraging class can help people to learn about nature and take advantage of the bounty it provides. Field Notebooks paired with promotional Pens, ID tip cards, spore Print sheets, and other materials for an event can be ordered from area Print shops.

This kid-friendly introduction to the world of mushrooms, brackets, puffballs, and other fungi will run from 9:30 am until 11:30 am on Sunday, October 20. The starting point will be at 4450 Blakely Avenue Northeast.
