Convention celebrates popular culture

Rustycon 35 is coming to Seattle this month for three days. The event is a celebration of furries, costume making, science fiction, and fantasy.

The convention has lots to offer for fans and those who wish to make a career in these fields. There will be panel discussions, a games room, and a dance with live musical entertainment. A number of workshops will be taking place during the three-day event, and topics include writing and costume making.

There will also be a vendors’ room featuring related items for sale such as action figures, costumes, and original works of art.

One of the main events will be the masquerade. Guests will compete for best costume under the categories of Young Fan, Novice, Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master/Pro.

There will also be a guest of honor dinner on Friday night beginning at 6:30 PM; among those being honored will be special guests such as writer Annie Bellet, game designer Jonathan Tweet, and artist Katie Croonenberghs. Tickets are $45 each.

Organizers of this sort of event often advertise widely in the Seattle area, which may include investing in Flyers and Booklets.

Rustycon 35 will be held at the Seattle Airport Marriott this weekend, January 12 to 14. Weekend passes range in price from $45 to $50. For the latest information, go to the official website.
