A marine holiday tradition for decades, dozens of ships and boats in Seattle's Puget Sound are now lit up for the Christmas Ship Festival.
The festival started in 1949, and Argosy Cruises is the company behind it today. The company's boat, called “The Spirit of Seattle” is the Official Christmas Ship. It is it up with hundreds of lights and takes visitors on a nighttime cruise that visits several communities in Puget Sound. Dozens of other sailing vessels and other decorated boats follow along in a marine-style parade.
There is live entertainment on board with choirs singing holiday classics. There are activities for children and Alaskan Airlines is holding a raffle for two free tickets anywhere the airline flies.
There are three ways that people can enjoy the Christmas Ship Festival: on board The Spirit of Seattle, on board one of the many follow-ships, or from the shore. Each is a different, unique experience.
Youth tickets range between $29 and $37, tickets for seniors are between $39 and $47, and adults tickets are between $42 and $50, depending on the package. Some of the proceeds will go to The Seattle Times Fund for the Needy, a charity that has helps local non-profits. The fund has directed more than $21m to groups that help families, children and seniors in Northwest Washington state.
