Upcoming event teaches the art of storytelling
The PowellsWood Storytelling Festival is taking place this summer in Federal Way, presented by PowellsWood and the Seattle Storytellers Guild.
The festival is expected to attract storytellers from around the world and is aimed at adults and children. Visitors can just come to listen to masters of storytelling or they can take workshops on how to become one themselves. Topics of the workshops, which cost from $65 to $115 each, include the use of movement and sound, how to polish off stories, and the Rocha and Kling techniques.
Several tents will be set up in the woodland and the perennial spring garden areas, music will be provided by Norm Brecke and Anne Rutherford, and there will be boxed lunches available for purchase. Visitors can also attend "Tea with the Tellers", in the Garden Room terrace where each table will have a storyteller. The two-day event will finish off with a concert.
Families from nearby communities such as Kent will no doubt want to know about this event. To help spread the word, local stationery printers may be asked to provide products such as posters and flyers.
The PowerllsWood Storytelling Festival will be held from July 24 to 25. Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for children, and $50 for a family, or a full pass is available for $125. Call Kristine Dillinger at 253-529-1620 to find out more.
