Unique festival comes to Kent
An upcoming event will give Kent residents a chance to learn about each other and how they contribute to their community.
The Kent International Festival celebrates the diversity and cultures found in South King County in general, and Kent in particular. This is the 15th year for the festival, which is family friendly, and includes vendors’ booths, various activities people can participate in, entertainment, and food trucks.
The Kent International Festival was founded to celebrate the community’s cultural diversity, in the belief that by celebrating cultures, heritages, and backgrounds together, residents will increase their understanding and respect for one another, resulting in a community that welcomes and includes everyone. The Festival is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Activities and participants in the 2023 Festival are still being finalized, but a look at 2022 gives potential attendees a glimpse of what they can expect. Last year, live performances took place on two stages, and plans for this year indicate the same arrangement will be used. Some of the shows on the Arena Stage were the Rowan Fae Irish Dancers and the Xihua Chinese Volk Dance. On the Plaza Stage, Booker T. Williams, Jr., a saxophonist, appeared, as did Dance from Northern Uganda.
The Kent International Festival is Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, at the accesso ShoWare Center on West James Street in Kent. Outdoor activities like this can be enhanced when organizers use banner printing to create decorations.
