Summer marathon invites Kent runners of all abilities
The 2020 Green River Marathon may be welcome activity after weeks of isolation for Kent residents.
It is the 24th year for the event. Runners begin the race in Kent and run north to Spud's Fish and Chips at Alki. The run is chip timed, and there is no registration or admission fee. Volunteers and runners can register on the Green River Marathon website.
Besides two small hills, the course is relatively flat and provides scenic views of Puget Sound. It is a low-key casual affair and anyone who does not want to run the 26.2 miles can get together with other runners and form a relay team. In fact, almost a quarter of all the runners who take part are in a relay. According to the marathon's website, the run is purely for fitness and no rules or division groups have been formalized.
More than 80 people took part in the 2019 run. Collin Page, 37, of Bothel, Washington won the contest that year with a time of 03:07:09.78.
Marathons and other races can use banner printing services to create start and finish line banners and other special signage.
All volunteers and runners will get medals this year. Runner will need to donate $20 to Northwest Harvest to get a medal. Donations can be made the day of the marathon.
The 2020 Green River Marathon is scheduled to take place Friday, June 6. The starting line is at S. 259th Street and 74th Avenue S. In Kent. Race time is 8:30 am, with an early start at 7:30 am for runners who require more time to finish. Check local listings online to confirm race date and time.
