What's Happening in Kent, WA…

Spicy event to come to Kent

An event is coming up that will bring New Orleans to Kent.

Cajun Fest will allow residents of the Pacific Northwest to dine, dance, and experience Southern hospitality as downtown Kent becomes “Little Louisiana.”

Live music will include performances by regional and local zydeco and Cajun bands, and food trucks will be on hand with Cajun-themed items. There will also be children’s activities, artists, vendors, and a wine/beer garden, hosted by Logan Brewing.

Bands and artists confirmed so far include the JBLM Military Bigfoot Brass Band, Eric “Two Scoops” Moore, Zydeco Locals, Too Loose Cajun/Zydeco, and Bayou Envie. Zydeco music originated in Louisiana and blends music of the Native Americans and Creoles in Louisiana with rhythm and blues.

The food vendors taking part are Altha’s Louisiana Cajun Spices, The Village Perk, Where Ya at Matt, All City Ice Cream, The Man BBQ, Al’s Sausage, Dat Creole Soul, and Po’Boy & Tings.

People are encouraged to wear New Orleans-type costumes, and bring blankets, folding chairs, and washboards to help the musicians along. When events like this are scheduled, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts listing the bands, vendors, and musicians.

Cajun Fest is August 19, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm in Kent Burlington Green Park. The event is free and appropriate for attendees of all ages. Although there is no charge, the city requests people RSVP so they can determine the level of interest in the event.
