What's Happening in Kent, WA…

Seminar offered to Kent families in transition

Kent’s Maleng Regional Justice Center is offering a workshop that can equip mothers, fathers and other caregivers with knowledge they can use to support their child through divorce, separation or other difficult situations, and it will be offered this July.

The fee to register for the ‘What About the Children’ parent seminar is $40, and a fee waiver reduction may be offered for individuals who meet set income requirements. It is a requirement that parents attend separately, and should they both sign up for the session, the second party to register will be asked to reschedule.

The workshop will take approximately three hours to complete, and the agenda includes topics that can help parents provide a healthy, conflict free environment for their child. They will learn how to build a parenting plan, the process of attending family court, how to effectively communicate with their son or daughter's other parent and also how they can best support him or her during this time of transition.

The planners of this class remarked that interpretation services may be available for this event. Those who register are asked to indicate that they need this assistance, as well as what language they will need to have translated. Handouts and other items that can benefit those who take part in a seminar like this can be prepared by local print shops.

This opportunity for parents to minimize the impact of conflict on their child will be offered on July 5. Other dates may be available, and it will be held at 401 Fourth Avenue in Kent.
