What's Happening in Kent, WA…

Nerds unite in Kent

All nerds are invited to geek out soon in Kent.

Downtown Kent will be the place where nerds, geeks, and people who enjoy quirkiness need to be for the upcoming Kent Nerd Party. The party helps promote small local businesses that offer services and products in keeping with nerd culture.

Small businesses located on West Meeker Street and 1st Avenue South will be the hosts of local authors, artists, and makers who specialize in the fields that characterize nerdiness, including horror, fantasy, and science fiction. Toys, games, books, and more will be available.

Retro Emporium is a shop that offers pop culture items, especially from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as retro-themed products and collectibles. Another shop that will be part of the fun is Page Turner Books, where nerds will find comics, video games, movies, mysteries, fantasies, and science fiction.

Big Wu’s Gym is the host of the SeaLUG, a Lego competition based in Seattle. Elaborate Lego constructions may take enthusiasts hundreds of hours to build. Some of these structures will be on display at the gym.

Nerds will also enjoy treats made especially for them at the Sweet Themes Bakery. A cosplay contest is part of the fun, as are authors, vendors, artists, and food trucks.

The Kent Nerd Party is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, throughout the city’s downtown, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm. When events like this are planned, organizers will often work with banner printing to create signage designating participants.
