Music for the holidays in Kent

An upcoming concert in Kent will celebrate the holiday season.

Organizers of a special event invite everyone to begin a new tradition, and join the Rainier Chorale to celebrate the season with music. The concert will feature works by composers just starting out, new takes on familiar holiday tunes, sing-a-longs, and classic carols. When events like this are planned, organizers can create beautiful seasonal advertising for them by using poster printing.

Ken Duley and Marilee Plaks formed the Rainier Chorale in 1982 as a community chorus. The purpose of the group was to join with the Rainier Symphony in a performance of Handel’s “Messiah.” The following year, the Chorale became an independent organization, incorporated in the state and receiving the status of a tax-exempt entity.

Mrs. Plaks directed the Chorale’s first performance, “The Creation” by Haydn in 1983, and “Elijah” by Mendelssohn the next year.

There are two performances of the Magic of Christmas with the Rainier Chorale scheduled, on December 9 at 7.00pm and December 10 at 3.00pm. The Kent Arts Commission and 4 Culture are supporting these events.

The venue is the Kent United Methodist Church on SE 248th Street. Tickets are now on sale, and are priced at $20 for general admission, and $14 for students and seniors (65 years of age and older). Tickets at the door will cost $22.
