What's Happening in Kent, WA…

Kent to enjoy community gardening

The Kent community is invited to help restore habitat in the area, as well as prepare to create food access for populations served by local organizations.

Back in January, volunteers helped to remove blackberry canes across 6,000 feet of hillside. Roots left over from the activity now need to be dug up and removed. After this project is completed, mulch will replace the area in preparation for planting.

The event is hosted by World Relief Seattle and Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden. The local office in Kent has a mission of bringing sustainable solutions to the community.

The garden area is a public space that helps immigrants and refugees with food access and economic assistance. Through environmental stewardship, the garden de-paved what was a previous parking lot and installed rain gardens and water systems. The goal is for the area to divert millions of gallons of water from storms each year.

Flyers are often used to communicate the need for volunteers and financial assistance for nonprofit organizations. Flyer printing can have images, graphics and compelling text printed on them to develop interest and participation.

The Community Garden Work Day will take place on Sunday, October 3, beginning at 1:00 pm and continuing until 4:00 pm. The Paradise parking Plots Community Gardens is located at 930 E James St. Volunteer sign-up can be arranged through the organization’s website.
