Kent Christmas Rush takes a break from holiday shopping
An annual event since 1985, the Kent Christmas Rush 5K and 10K runs are giving local residents a preemptive chance at burning off some holiday calories once again this year.
Runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels are welcome. The 10K route follows the Green River Trail and circles the Kent Valley on a flat loop. Meanwhile, the 5K trail is suited for weekend runner or walkers who are just out to have some enjoyable exercise. The race is certified and timed using disposable chips.
There is still time to register for the event. Entrance fees are $15 without a Christmas Rush shirt, or $30 with a shirt. After December 7, the fee without a shirt climbs to $25. The first 400 children under 13 years-old run for free through a promotion with sponsor Tab Wizard. Registration closes December 12.
Pets are not allowed on the course due to safety concerns. Parents with strollers are allowed, but are asked to place themselves in a position at the starting line where they are not interfering with other runners.
Volunteers are also needed for the race, to distribute gift bags, pass out water to runners or the help marshal the race.
The race is put on by the Kent Parks, Recreation and Community Services, with many community partnerships and sponsors. Print shops are great for supplying top quality starting-line and finish-line banner printing services for public race events such as this one.
The Kent Christmas Rush takes place on Saturday, December 14 at Hogan Park at Russell Road. Registration begins at 8:00 am. The 10K race begins at 9:50 am, and the 5K race begins at 10:00 am.
