Kent celebrates its nerds
The City of Kent is getting ready to dedicate a day to its nerdier side.
The upcoming Meeker Street Nerd Party fosters small downtown businesses who support nerds. Businesses located on West Meeker, between Second and Fourth Avenues will host authors, artists, and makers from the local area who are specialists in nerd culture. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create maps for attendees, helping them to find participating businesses.
Business taking part are the Retro Emporium, where shoppers will find retro-themed goods and vintage collectibles from the 1980s and 1990s, and Page Turner Books, which offers comics, video games, movies, and books in the mystery, fantasy, and sci-fi genres. PTB Comics & Manga will be taking part, as will Big Wu Fitness, where Lego creations will be on display.
Sweet Themes Bakers will have nerd-themed goodies, as will the Pied Piper Pub. Nerds can chat with authors and artists at the All Algo Spa, and CybFest NW will be found at Grey Sunz Tattoo, celebrating all things Transformers.
Authors confirmed to be taking part are Will McDermott, Tommy Rice, Jeff Grubb, Lora Senf, Tiffany Shearn, J.P. Barnett, and Maria Giakoumatos.
Special guest artists include game designer Steve Miller, BritCon, BrickCon (offering Lego creations), Rihana Martinson, game designer and cartoonist Stannex, art animator and sketch artist J Boom, illustrator and artist Lori Collins, and fantasy artist Bruno Pags.
A cosplay costume contest is part of the fun, which is set for February 25 from 3.00 pm until 7.00 pm.
