Kent celebrates 50th Earth Day with park clean-up

As the world gets ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, residents in Kent are being asked to do what they can to clean their little corner of the planet.

This year, Kent organizers have their sights set on Morrill Meadows Park, home to a popular off-leash dog park, picnic facilities, and a walking trail. The event is still planned at the time of writing, but checking for updates will be advisable.

Volunteers will be asked to clean the park, but also to remove any invasive plant species they may find, in order to protect and preserve the area's natural eco-system.

In the spirit of Earth Day, clean-up organizers are requesting volunteers take public transit or carpool to the event. There is free parking available next to the park and the nearby YMCA.

Local print shops can help out in community events such as these, with professional flyer printing for promoting the event.

A Minor Waiver Form is required if the volunteer is under 18 years-old, a copy of which can be found and printed off the City of Kent website. Volunteers should also bring a snack and water, work gloves, sturdy shoes or boots (no sandals or flip-flops are allowed), and whatever clothing is appropriate for the weather on the day.

Celebrate Earth Day in Kent takes places Saturday, April 18 from 9:00 am to noon (rain or shine) at Morrill Meadows Park, 10600 SE 248th St. in Kent.
