What's Happening in Kent, WA…

Fun on the Fourth in Kent

Kent, Washington, is promising to make this year’s 4th of July a special celebration with live bands taking to the Splash stage.

Part of the fun of events like this is the food, and the city is asking restaurant and food trucks to apply. One event is already set up, though—the Kent Senior Activity Center is hosting the Annual Fourth of July Pie Eating Contest. Anyone who wants to take part will find the sign up spot close to the stage.

Live entertainment starts with the Party Gras Jazz Band and its leader, Bobby Medina. Their lively sound will kick off the afternoon.

Speed Control is next. This Yukon, Canada-based band has taken its inspiration from groups like Motley Crüe, The Barenaked Ladies, the Foo Fighters and more, and is a straight-ahead rock and roll outfit. Their sound has been described as:

“Super tight, riff heavy, harmony rock.”

The final group to appear is the eight-piece outfit from Houston, The Suffers. They offer R&B, funk, and soul sounds.

The pie-eating contest takes place from 1.00 pm until 1.30 pm. The Party Gras Jazz Band performs from 12.00 pm until 1.00 pm, Speed Control plays from 1.30 pm until 3.00 pm, and The Suffers appears from 3.30 pm until 5.00 pm. Overall hours for the event are 12.00 pm until 5.00 pm at Lake Meridian Park. Events like this can be even more fun if organizers use banner printing to announce the entertainment so everyone can see.
