What's Happening in Kent, WA…

Big Easy on the way to Kent

Dining, dancing, and a Cajun good time is coming to Kent in August.

The Cajun Food and Music Festival will bring the hospitality and culture typical of New Orleans to Kent, where the event turns the downtown in a “Little Louisiana.”

The venue for the fun is Railroad Avenue and Burlington Green Park, where the adjacent street will be closed to traffic. This will make room for activities for children, vendors, a second line parade, makers and artists, a beer garden, food, and live music.

More than 40 vendors from Kent and the surrounding area will take part, and Half Lion Brewing is setting up the beer garden. Food will be available from Cheddar Boy, Full Tilt Ice Cream, Where ya at Matt?, Po Boy n’ Tings, and Crawfish King. Pubs and local restaurants are only a short walk from the main event.

Any Cajun festival must have music, specifically the crazy genre known as zydeco. The artists scheduled to play are Jukebox Jamzz, Nick Vigarino’s Meantown Blues, Swamp Soul, Zydeco Lowdown, and Bayou Envie.

Organizers are encouraging attendees to wear New Orleans-type costumes, and bring blankets and folding chairs in which to relax, and washboards to play. The event is free, but organizers ask that people RSVP.

The Cajun Festival is scheduled for August 20, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Attendees at this type of event appreciate having a schedule, which organizers can create using flyer printing.
