Renovated park to open in Tomball

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at Jerry Matheson Park in Tomball later this month.

The cost to upgrade the park with the latest improvements has been $2.3 million. The upgrades include a new splash pad, play structure, four full pickleball courts, improved walking trails, expanded parking, structures for shade, and an upgraded playground. There are also improvements to the baseball field and the swimming pool.

Local print shops can help spread the word about the opening of such updated parks and their many benefits for a community.

A grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) partially funded the project along with money from community partners and the city. The TPWD awarded the city $750,000 for upgrades to the park once it approved the matching grant application of the city. The Tomball Regional Health Foundation donated $490,000 for the playground, the Tomball Economic Development Corporation contributed $500,000, and the city contributed $560,000 for the remodel.

The director of public works, Drew Huffman, expressed his excitement about providing such new amenities in the park and enabling the public to enjoy the open space that the park now provides. He added that the greatest benefit of the updates is a safer area for the kids with the new playground, in addition to the splashpad for cooling off this summer.

The ribbon cutting ceremony for Jerry Matheson Park will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16.
