Veteran restaurateur family to launch Mex-Tex concept

The Pineda family, who previously ran Pineda’s Mexican Cuisine, is taking over the space formerly occupied by Pizza Americana on W. Arapaho Rd. in Richardson.

The family’s new venture, to be named Sueño Modern Mex-Tex, is being spearheaded by Julio Pineda, who was part owner of Pineda’s Mexican Cuisine, which is still open under different management.

Explaining the “Mex-Tex” concept for the new restaurant, Pineda was quoted on Culture Map Dallas as saying:

"We have our own spin. We're taking comfort food and Tex-Mex and flipping it around. It'll be Tex-Mex, but with the plates being a little more modern, and with well-made craft cocktails."

The menu has not been finalized but mole and fajitas will definitely be included, and there will be a raw bar with aguachiles (shrimp in chili sauce) and ceviches (a raw fish dish).

Almost as important as the contents of a menu are its graphic design – how this fits into the décor's theme contributes considerably to the overall dining experience.

Pineda explained that theirs is a family-operated business, which he said the Richards community has a history of embracing. Family members in the business include his dad Aureliano Pineda as Executive Chef and his uncle Jaime Pineda as the Chef de Cuisine.

A November opening is hoped for but this depends on the speed of permits, supplies, and other variables.
