It was recently announced that South Dakota-based Virtual Cold Storage has purchased Lone Star Cold Storage in Richardson to add to its network of temperature-controlled facilities spread throughout the U.S.
Vertical Cold Storage President Curt Mastbergen touted the attributes of his company’s new acquisition, pointing to the Richardson facility’s easy interstate highway access devoid of heavy traffic and top-rated team. Additionally, he cited the building’s flexibility to accommodate a wide assortment of items and their individual cold storage requirements, as well as its proximity to two-thirds of the U.S. population, which are within a two-day drive.

The 227,331 sq. ft. facility keeps costs contained by using an ammonia refrigeration system that is both environmentally friendly and energy efficient. The 5,645,661 cubic-feet storage space is divided into seven rooms that can each be cooled to their individually required temperate range, which can be from -20 to 45°. Other services include case picking, blast freezing, cross dock, and electronic data interchange capabilities.
With 40 dock doors and 17,982 pallet positions, the experienced Lone Star Team has been supporting several of the largest frozen and refrigerated product suppliers in the county.
