Richardson ISD agrees on school calendars

At a recent meeting for the board of trustees, the Richardson ISD agreed on the final format of the calendar for the next two school years.

The board of trustees went over the potential options for the next school Calendars in a meeting held in December. The board discussed feedback from the public before making the final decision at a meeting held in January.

Vanessa Pacheco, one of the trustees, commented to say:

“I just want to thank everyone who worked on the calendar and all the teachers’ feedback. I think this calendar is great, and I like the idea of having a conference day for parents and teachers.”

The academic calendar for 2023-24, which can now go to Print shops for physical Copies, will have 174 days of instruction and an extra 13 days for teachers to get professional learning. The school year will begin on August 15 and the winter break will start on December 22. Students will return from winter break on January 9 and spring break will be from March 11-15.

According to Superintendent Tabitha Branum, the big difference between the calendar options was having a weather makeup day on April 1. The 2024-25 calendar will begin on August 13 and winter break will begin on December 23. The next semester starts on January 7 and spring break will be from March 17-21. The school year will end on May 23.
