During a meeting this month, the Richardson Council opted to establish a new committee to promote involvement with local government.
The commission will be known as the Community Inclusion and Engagement Commission. According to a rough schedule revealed in official documents, applications from those who wish to become one of the nine members of the commission are slated to start being reviewed in January.
New members will serve on the commission for terms lasting two years, with a maximum of four terms back-to-back. The board intends to provide guidance to the council on issues related to inclusion, diversity, accessibility, and engagement. It will present a report to the council every year. The board was created with the goal of keeping Richardson's diverse stakeholders engaged. The commission will also be tasked with enhancing communication between the city's administrators and its stakeholders. If the council requests it, the commission could also assess specific programs, initiatives, or services.
In other council-related news, City Council members in Richardson will be able to remotely attend meetings if appropriate justification is presented. The new policy will enable the council's members to take part virtually a maximum of four times in every term if they have a compelling cause to do so. Each meeting can have a maximum of two members participating remotely, but either the presiding officer or the mayor and a quorum would need to be there in person.
