The Texas Cooperative Extension of Texas A&M University will soon be sponsoring the Willis 4-H Prospect Show for Pigs, Lambs and Goats.
Conroe youth, and others from the area, will be able to test their animal raising skills with others at or near their level. The show will feature Montgomery County 4H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) members showing their livestock. Parents, family, friends, and any other interested people are invited to watch and offer their support.
Prospect Shows have been developed to help young men and women show their livestock in a near-competition venue. This will give them the opportunity to test themselves and their animals prior to participating in more advanced competitions, such as at the State Fair level.
As part of the upcoming show, young people will be showing their pigs (barrows only) and lambs (wethers only). There will be prizes for breed and reserve breed. Young people will also be showing goats (wethers only), where there will be prizes awarded in several categories including showmanship. Parents and other supporters may wish to have banner printing done for waving from the stands.
The show will be held Saturday, January 2, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in The Lone Star Convention & Expo Center, 9055 Airport Rd, Conroe, starting at 10:00 am. Pigs and goats will be shown simultaneously, followed by the lambs. There will be no cost to watch.
