In a few days, Conroe Symphony Orchestra will be saying goodbye to its longstanding conductor and music director, Dr. Don Hutson, with a concert titled ‘A Walk Down Memory Lane’.
The evening will begin with the Star Spangled Banner, followed by John Berry’s ‘Out of Africa’. Leroy Anderson’s ‘Typewriter’ will come next, and after that, the orchestra will play Ennio Morncone’s ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’. Another John Berry work, ‘Dances with Wolves’, and a piece by Dr. Don Hutson’s nephew, Charles Blake, called ‘Watch me Burn’ will precede ‘Danzon No 2’ (a work by Arturo Marquez) and Ottorino Respighi’s ‘Pines of the Appian Way’.
After a fond farewell, Dr. Hutson will officially pass the baton to Dr. Jacob Sustaita.
Dr. Hutson has been with the orchestra for about 13 years and has selected pieces that have stories behind them and a place in his heart.
Dr. Sustaita, the present associate director, is at Sam Houston State University as its orchestral studies director. He has also been the music director of the Minnesota Philharmonic and the Akron Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Tickets will be $20 for adults and $5 for children, and can be purchased at the Conroe Symphony Center or by phone.
The Conroe Symphony Orchestra’s Farewell Concert will be Saturday, April 13 at Conroe High School, 3200 West Davis Street. The performance will begin at 7:00 pm.
