Murfreesboro airport hosts technology festival

Locals interested in aviation have a chance to network and learn from professionals in October when the Murfreesboro airport hosts an educational event.

This year’s Airport STEAM Festival will be held in mid-October and will include an array of exhibits and presentations centered on aviation technology. Parents and children can view a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter (courtesy of the Tennessee National Guard), and the Experimental Aircraft Association will be on hand with a Microsoft Flight Simulator demo, several personal aircraft owned by its members, and a presentation on flight dynamics. LifeFlight will also have a medical evacuation helicopter on display.

The Airport STEAM Festival is only one of many events that are part of the annual Tennessee STEAM Festival. The program’s overall aim is to connect interest in various emerging and developing technologies to future careers, lending support to the state’s business development. The event consists of a network of organizations, including museums, schools, businesses, and community centers, all combining efforts to highlight the importance of STEAM education and business development to the state’s economy. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Science. Business cards are often exchanged at networking events.

The Airport Steam Festival will occur on Saturday, October 18, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The venue is the Murfreesboro Municipal Airport, located at 1930 Memorial Boulevard. Attendance is free, and hot dogs and water will be provided to attendees while supplies last.
