New artist partnership frames special weekend activities

This August, the Front Porch Arts Collective is planning to host several events for artists from the Upstate to socialize and meet each other.

The group is a collaboration of artists in Greenville who are looking to provide a place at which multidisciplinary art inspired by the culture of the Southeast can be created and experienced. It was started in December 2013 by four college graduate artists of the Upstate who were looking to make Upstate South Carolina a center for the arts, and so the Front Porch Arts Collective was born.

According to Cortney McEniry, the executive director, the name ‘Front Porch’ reflects the concept of the fporch being both a place where people can reflect in solitude and arrange gatherings of neighbors and friends.

The group’s first annual Community Arts Festival will take place from August 6 through 9. It starts with a Kickoff Party on August 6 with a family-friendly night of art, live rhythm, and blues and soul folk music and fellowship. On the evening of August 7, the Porch Light Playwrights, a group of actors from Greenville, will present staged readings by playwrights from the Upstate. The Festival ends on August 9 with an Open House. where attendees can meet with local artists and talk about the future of the group.

It is likely that these events will be publicized with items such as Flyers from local printing companies.
