A budget of $85.6m, which provides city employees with raises yet keeps the city tax rate the same, is being considered by the Greenville City Council.
Bryon Hayes, finance director for the city, has recommended a fiscal year 2019-20 budget of $85,643,669. The proposed budget will keep Greenville’s current ad valorem tax rate of 52-cent. Moreover, an average 2.7% pay increase for employees is provided and the Greenville-Fire Rescue will receive funding for three additional positions.
Some of the other budget details include almost $18.9m for operating expenses, with $5.3m for public works, $4.4m to the Greenville PD, $2.2m for parks and recreation, and $1.9m for fire-rescue.
A sum of $2.5 million is allocated for street improvement projects, allow with funding of $1.28m for facility improvement projects. In addition, a total of $1m will be given to the information technology and city financial services offices respectively.
