Upstate Craft Beer Co. is planning to open a small brewpub and restaurant in downtown Greenville in the building of the former Claussen Bakery. The build-out of the space is expected to be completed this month, in plenty of time for an opening in April.
According to Jack McDonald, owner of the brewery, the Upstate Craft Beer Co. will produce a line of ales itself, while also offering a restaurant and a supply shop for home brewers.
Chris Hardin, a brewer with the restaurant, will help brewers to make their own ales. There will be a flat fee of $150 to make a batch of beer and then home brewers will bottle their creations at home to share with friends and family.
Hardin said that there will be 20 taps in the restaurant, 10 of them for the beers that he will make. Brewing will be done in a setup in the ‘nano’ style, with two half-barrel systems so that new beers can put on every week and people will have a representation of the major beer styles.
Upstate Craft Beer used a Kickstarter fundraising campaign so as to raise $12,000 for the purchase of equipment and to raise awareness of the brewpub.
