Families in need get help from Greenville Goodfellows club

More than 1,000 boxes of food will be provided by The James F. Daniel, Jr. Post 3 of The American Legion, located in Greenville, through its Goodfellows Club. It will be donated to families in Greenville County.

This is the 90th year for the food drive. The goal is to collect $32,000 from the community, which will then be used to purchase boxes of food. Volunteers from GE Turbine, members of the Post and the community, and scout troops will prepare and distribute these boxes of food two days before Christmas.

TD Convention Center, The Greenville News, the Greenville County Sheriff Cadets, and Greenville Meats are some of those partners working with the American Legion post in the food drive.

So far this year, almost $800 has been collected. The Greenville News will publish the names of contributors and the amounts of the donations once the food drive has ended.

Goodfellows lapel pins are also being sold as part of the drive, the proceeds of which will go towards purchasing the food for families in need.

The Goodfellows Club is a nonprofit organization. Roy Gullick and Frank Ward are co-chairmen of the Club, which might consider working with a flyer printing company on a mailer for area residents, discussing the success in the past with this effort, but reminding the public that many people still need their help.
