Philly walk to search for fungi

Philadelphia fungi fans will be offered the opportunity to learn more about these organisms when they join in a walk that will explore the species in the area.

Mycology is the study of fungi and the role they pay in their ecosystems, and this will be the focus of the walk planned for the Wissahickon Environmental Center. Tickets for the outing are $5, and the schedule for the excursion runs for two hours on a Saturday morning.

The walk will be led by a member of the Philadelphia Mycology Club, and anyone aged eight and up is welcome to join the fun. The session will open with a brief discussion before it takes to the trails, and as they go, the facilitator will point various species along the way. The registration donation will be used by the club to help fund its activities.

Foraging for plants or fungi for food, or just to appreciate their beauty, is becoming more popular and the fall is an ideal time to do it. Custom ID guides, record sheets, and other items for a nature-based activity can be designed and printed by Stationery printers, helping novices get to grips with the activity.

The Philadelphia Mycology Walk will take to the trails at the Wissahickon Environmental Center on Saturday, October 19. It will begin at 10:00 am sharp.
