Seed swapping is a way for thrifty gardeners to both save money and horticultural diversity, and one of these activities has been planned for Philadelphia this winter.
Even though it may be cold, January can still be a busy time for local green thumbs as they plan and prepare for another season. This Sharing Saturday Seed Swap will also include a clothes and book exchange, making it an opportunity to get some new seeds to plant, as well as knowledge of how to do so successfully.
This women’s event will see those who have seeds or Books to share bring them to the selected venue for the activity, and all ages are welcome. Any not exchanged on the day will be donated to the Little Free Library program at the Pleasant Community Garden. The tools, gardening gloves, and other gear will be passed along to the school garden and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities on offer at Henry H. Houston School.
It was noted that the seeds should be non-invasive and packaged in labeled Envelopes or Bags. Flyers may be posted throughout an area to effectively promote a pop-up style function for the community, and they can be ordered form flyer printing companies.
Women in Horticulture has made plans to offer this activity on January 22, and it will be on from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. The function is scheduled to take place at 100 East Gowen Avenue in Philadelphia.
