Local academy offers open house in honor of founding

The Founders Day celebration is taking place next month at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. It will be the 104th anniversary, making it the oldest natural history museum in the country.

Guests will have the opportunity to visit the many permanent displays on exhibit, as well as take part in some special activities planned for the day. Admission is usually $17.95 for adults but will be free on this day, although guests are still encouraged to give a small donation.

Some of the activities guests can enjoy are the invertebrate cart, where they can get hands-on experience with insects, watch a fossil prep lab demo, or watch a Science Live demonstration about dinosaur nests and eggs. There is also set to be a naturalist presentation about live birds and guests can visit the library reading room. For those who want to visit the Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibit, tickets are $5 or $3 for members.

This event takes place at the beginning of spring break and no doubt many Philadelphia families will plan to visit the academy on this day. To advertise, organizers may invest in flyer printing services.

The Founder Day celebration will take place at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University on March 21 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Call 215-299-1000 for the most up-to-date information.
