One of the foundations of a productive garden plot is having good soil, and North Versailles home horticulturalists will be offered an opportunity to learn about this in depth.
Phipps Conservatory offers learning opportunities online and in person, and one of these will be focused on soil. Both members and non-members alike can take part, and the cost for this starts at $117.
During the two-class series, which will be hosted in the evening, the learners will discover how they can encourage the healthy growth of their plants by providing a suitable growing medium. The symbiotic relationship between soil, bacteria, fungi, and plants will be explored. During the hands-on session, the attendees will get some real-world practice in soil management. The use of fertilizers is also on the agenda, and up to nine continuing education credits may be available.
Workshops offer professionals and the general public an opportunity to enhance their skills or even learn some new ones. Certificate of completion, as well as handouts and other learning materials, may be obtained from area Stationery printers.
This introduction to building a healthy soil will begin on October 11 and the second session will be held on October 13. The hands-on outdoor lab is scheduled for October 15 at Phipps Garden Center, and anyone who is interested is encouraged to reserve their space now.
