What's Happening in North Versailles, PA…

The public works department of North Versailles has hired some students to help lighten its workload for parks and recreation over the summer months.

Six young people were hired to help out with jobs such as lawn and grass mowing, clearing vacant lots and other projects. One of those who was offered a position was Guy Thompson, who is the son of North Versailles Commission president George Thompson. The commissioners voted in favor of hiring him by 4 to 2 with Thompson abstaining from the vote. He began work on July 13. A firm that provides printing services will be able to produce employment applications, contract sheets, employee handbooks, uniform T-shirts, and any other items that may be needed to help administer a summer works program.

During the same meeting, several other proposals were voted upon. These included the selection of a rock salt supplier after receiving several bids from different firms to do so. They also authorized the rental of a portable toilet, chose a firm to repair the municipal building’s back gate, agreed to the installation of a handicapped parking sign to be located at 420 Delaware Avenue and approved the transfer of funds from the capital expenditures account to the general fund. They can be put towards meeting the costs of the project to replace Osbourne Street bridge.
