The nighttime sky has long been a source of wonder, and North Versailles residents who have always wanted to learn more about what they see when they stargaze are welcome to be part of a late September event.
The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh has planned an evening of night watching that will give locals a chance to share their interest with the general public. The activity will begin at dusk, and everyone is welcome, no matter what their level of experience with astronomy may be.
The stargazing party will be taking place in Murrysville Community Park, and volunteers will have telescopes set up for the guests to use. Those who plan on attending are asked to bring a folding chair as well as insect repellent, and they are also requested to keep light sources such as flashlights, headlights, and cellphones turned off.
Anyone who plans on participating in this activity is welcome to bring their own telescope if they have one, and they can ask questions and gets tips for using it. Simple sky charts and other items can offer an introduction to astronomy for participants in this sort of evening, and these can be prepared by area Print shops.
The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will be hosting its Star Party on September 28. It will be set up at 4056 Wiestertown Road in Export.
