Warm-up event to welcome Butler birders

Whether they are a beginner hoping to get their feet wet or have years of experience spotting and identifying feathered friends, a Butler area event will soon be welcoming local birders.

The annual Christmas Bird Count offers an easy way for the public to play an active role in conservation by observing birds and recording the numbers and species they see. The data collected will be used in a variety of ways, and the session will provide an introduction to the process.

The class, which is for adults and interested youth, will take place both indoors and out. Attendees will be treated to bagels and coffee while they take in tips for counting birds. They will find out what species they can expect to see, and with some luck, there may even be lifers on the list of birds they spot. If the weather permits, a short birding walk will be included.

A workshop can provide an entertaining opportunity to learn about nature. Basic field guides, species checklists, promotional Pens, and other materials for a class or other learning activity will be available at area Print professionals.

The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will be welcoming attendees for its Christmas Bird Count Warm Up on Saturday, November 30. Succop Nature Park will be the location for the session, which runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.
