A new program has been set up to help the older generation of Butler residents, along with other communities in northeast Pennsylvania, to obtain fresh fruits, vegetables and other produce.
The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides vouchers that can be used to purchase up to $20 worth of food at participating roadside stands and farmers’ markets. In order to qualify for the program, those who take part must be aged 60 or older by December 31st of this year. They must also have a total household income that’s lower than $21,978, after taxes, if they live alone. Those who live as a couple will need to have one that is $29,637 or less.
The program will run from the first of June until the last day of November, and both proof of residency and age must be presented in order to receive the vouchers. They are being made available on the basis of first come first served, and a total of four valued at $5.00 each will be given out per person. Stationery printers can produce items to use in efforts such as this.
There are a total of six dates during which the coupons will be distributed at different locations throughout the area. In Butler, they will be handed out on June 21st at the Butler Active Adult Center, located at 411 West Butler Drive from 10:00am until 12:00 pm.
