Work on Lancaster's Fair Avenue has been ongoing for some time, but now is reaching completion.
The street was reopened on Sunday, and lights should be installed by this Friday. Resurfacing of another portion of the thoroughfare is slated to begin soon.
Workers closed the busy Pierce Avenue and Fair Avenue intersection so they could finish the work, including putting up the light poles. Assuming the work goes smoothly, the intersection should be reopened on Monday, September 28.
When the intersection is finished, only one part of the project is left: paving the street, west from the railroad tracks to the city limits. Lancaster Department of Transportation's operations manager, Greg Hintz, said the department had not yet met with the contractors, but believed the street is scheduled to be micro-surfaced. Traffic should have access to the route during the paving, but drivers should expect lane closures and possible delays.
Although the Ohio Department of Transportation has done most of the work, the final part of the resurfacing will be done by the city. Kokosing Construction, a Columbus company, did the earlier work, and the contract for the final phase went to Strawser Construction, also of Columbus. The work is scheduled to begin October 5.
City officials could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents listing the work schedule and suggesting alternate routes.
