Lancaster residents, as well as people from the surrounding area, will soon have an opportunity to welcome spring with a popular celebration.
Alley Park will be the site of the Maple Tapping Festival and Pancake Breakfast, an event that has been held annually for the last 32 years.
About 500 people are expected to attend the celebration, which includes a popular pancake breakfast featuring maple syrup, as well as demonstrations that show how to tap maple trees for their sap, which is then boiled down and turned into the popular topping.
Demonstrations will be held throughout the morning, and there are other educational events planned, as well as a self-guided tour that visitors can use to learn more about the history of tapping maples for their sap. Steve Conrad, who is the supervisor of recreational services for Lancaster's parks department, notes that it takes approximately 40 gallons of maple sap to make a single gallon of syrup.
The festival is slated for Alley Park, located in Lancaster at 2805 Old Logan Road SE, this Saturday, March 14. It runs from 8:00 am to noon, and while the maple tapping demonstrations are free, the breakfast is $4.
Festival organizers might want to work with a banner printing company to create colorful and weather resistant Banners to hang outdoors at the event.Get a Free Quote for Banners
