Owners plan building renovations on Lancaster's east side

Shared Options recently purchased a building with over 200,000 square feet of space. Located on Lancaster's east side, the property was once the warehouse for the Lynch Lumber & Supply Company. Shared Options has a number of ideas for new uses for the structure.

Pete Swartz, who is Shared Options' general manager, said he didn't know how long the warehouse has been vacant, though he is aware Lynch Lumber built it in 1964. The Lancaster Glass Corporation stored some of its materials in the warehouse.

The building is unheated, which makes it chilly to work in at the moment, but Swartz said a heating system will be installed in the spring. He adds helicopters will lift the system into place on the roof. Until they get heating installed, workers renovating the building are using space heaters to stay warm.

David Scheffler, Lancaster's mayor, toured the site recently and said the community will welcome the renovations, since the building has been empty for years. New tenants moving in will increase jobs, particularity on the east side, and Swartz is hopeful that hundreds of people will find employment with the various businesses that move in. In addition, the building's neighbors will also benefit from the improvements being made on its exterior.
