A training course on mental health first aid is to be held in Lancaster this January.

The course is open to all levels and the topics will include understanding and responding to substance abuse and mental illness, as well as implementing the ALGEE plan.
The ALGEE plan is a group of foundational steps designed for the close friends and family of those at high risk of substance abuse or self-harm. The steps include assess for risk (A), listen non-judgmentally (L), give reassurance and information (G), encourage appropriate professional help (E), and encourage self-help or self-management strategies (E).
The course will also examine the common Signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse, as well as how to interact with the persons in crisis.
The session will last for the entire day. There will be a lunch session, although guests will need to bring their own food. Additionally, as a prerequisite, attendees will need to complete the pre-work. This will be sent to participants through email. The event is free of charge to attend.
