Lions Club supports local non-profit

The Tarhe Lions Club of Lancaster recently invited Ron Burris to be its guest speaker.

Burris is chairman of a non-profit organization known as The Lancaster Clause (TLC) and spoke to the Lions about the Tour de Cause, a recent fund-raising event. TLC seeks to fund important causes, and is currently working to eliminate drug problems in Lancaster.

The Tour, as its name implies, is a bicycling event, and participants had their choice of five different routes: a 12-mile family ride; a 20-mile Tourister Ride; the 44.5 mile Challenger Ride; the Adventurer Ride, which covered 64.6 miles; and finally, the Road Warrior Ride, which was just short of 100 miles. Riders covered different routes, but all enjoyed stops at Pleasantville for food, and Millersport for ice cream.

In addition to describing the Tour, Burris told the Lions about drug use within the county, and noted that all the monies raised go to help fund alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs at the Recovery Center of Fairfield County. Money also goes toward raising awareness of these problems. This year, the Tour raised over $55,000 and, in the past five years, has collected over $300,000. After his address, the Lions gave Burris a check for $400 to help further efforts.

TLC could work with brochure printers to create a mailer for Lancaster residents, highlighting the success of this year's Tour and explaining the mission.
