Lancaster has begun paving its streets, it has been confirmed this month.
The municipality began the work on August 19, using the money raised in a 2012 tax levy. The first work is slated for Rainbow Drive, where a two-inch edge mill will be installed.
The paving program for 2015 includes a stretch of Rainbow Drive between Ohio 188 and Sheridan Drive, during which time the road will be closed, except to local traffic, in order that in-depth work can be carried out. People who do not live in the area will have to use detours, according to the Lancaster Department of Transportation's Toby Shamblin.
Shamblin also noted even locals might have to avoid driving on the road while the concrete sets. It is possible that the process, which takes three days, might lead to the department blocking off access to homes, and changing trash pickup days.
Work is already underway on Marietta Road between Lynwood Lane and Ohio 188. Projects are also scheduled for Wheeling Road, Sells Road, and Independence Boulevard. According to Shamblin, the work is being done on these particular streets to upgrade them to meet the guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as making other needed repairs.
City officials might like to work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, listing the projects, locations, times of closures, and suggested detours.
